Community Calendars

map

Great Start recognizes the importance of community involvement and the value of opportunities for families to learn and grow together. We have created these community calendars as a way to share timely community events with you. If you know of any events please take time to add them to our community calendar or forward the information to gsevents@dsisd.net. Please encourage the agencies and organizations that you partner with to do so as well so we can have a comprehensive one stop shop for early childhood information in our communities.

Please note that there are guidelines for submissions and each will be reviewed before posting

Parenting Class (Free and online, self-paced to fit your schedule)

December 4, 2024

Various topics:

MI Parenting Resource:

Michigan State University Extension is excited to share MI Parenting Resource, a free, online program developed by our partners in MSU’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies. MiParenting Resource offers a collection of videos introducing research-supported strategies for common caregiving concerns, such as how to increase child cooperation, teach children new behaviors, and identify and manage emotions. The videos feature real caregivers who explain and demonstrate the skills with their children.

MI Parenting Resource is a self-paced parent education program. It includes approximately two hours of content and is available at no cost to families in Michigan. A certificate of completion is available for download after finishing the program.

The content of MI Parenting Resource is targeted to caregivers of children ages 4 to 17, but the tools and strategies presented may benefit anyone working with children and families.

Self-paced Positive Discipline Online Course

This workshop will help you learn about factors that promote self-discipline in children, increase awareness of our personal role in creating an environment where discipline and self-control are learned and practiced, and gain new ideas for personal actions that we can take to maintain the positive interactions between adults and children we are looking for.

There are two versions of this course. Select either the Parents and Families or Professional Caregivers option below, based on your role, to register.
