Our 2021 Trusted Advisors grant ended 11/24/21. We were also awarded 2 additional $10k Talking is Teaching mini grants in October. Our accomplishments through these grants were:
- Three permanent Storywalks located at the following locations: Escanaba Public Library, Bark River Sports Complex (new hiking trail) and St. Francis School in Manistique
- Additional book titles for our portable Storywalk
- Talking is Teaching events including Talking is Teaching Day, Fun Fest, Community Spaces kick off, Community Handprint mural in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, and Play & Learn Playgroups
- Talking is Teaching Camping scavenger hunt for Lakeshore Campground (permanent fixture) and a Talking is Teaching Science panel for the mariana playground in Manistique
- Play & Learn playgroups: 6 held in Delta and 4 held in Schoolcraft County over the summer months
- Social-Emotional Behavior Begins in the Brain workshop and additional online curriculum for attendees
- 225 Social-Emotional totes for home visitors (theme: sleeping, eating and Behavior)
We also received an $8000 U.P. Literacy Grant in collaboration with Great Start to Quality and our partner GSC’s across the U.P. We were able to purchase books and supplies for local home visiting programs, resource closets, and Welcome Newborns.
We have applied for a final round of Trusted Advisor grants for 2022 and will be notified in January if we are awarded. You can get involved and help us bring high-quality materials and programs to the community! Our work doesn't happen without parent input!
