Great Start recognizes the importance of community involvement and the value of opportunities for families to learn and grow together. We have created these community calendars as a way to share timely community events with you. If you know of any events please take time to add them to our community calendar or forward the information to gsevents@dsisd.net. Please encourage the agencies and organizations that you partner with to do so as well so we can have a comprehensive one stop shop for early childhood information in our communities.
Please note that there are guidelines for submissions and each will be reviewed before posting

School is right around the corner! This makes for a perfect time to sit
down and talk to your kids about all kinds of things!
Preparing them to take directions from teacher and staff
Talking to them about how some kids learn differently! Some
students will go to different rooms with different teachers so
they can learn in a manner that best suits them!
Being kind to all, even when it’s difficult.
Talking to an adult if you see someone being bullied or are being
bullied yourself.
Its also a great time to remember that your kids do not need all new
school stuff.
A backpack from last year is perfectly fine!
Water bottles from last year are great if they don’t leak!
There's no need to buy an entirely new wardrobe for school if
your child’s clothing is weather-appropriate and fits well. But if
you want to go for it!
Its great to shop second-hand at Goodwill, St. Vinnies, and The
Hope Store!
If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to talk with your
teacher or contact Great Start or Help Me Grow. They can help
answer questions or direct you to someone who can help. We want
all kids(and parents) to have a great school year!
